Chippewa Square, 1815

This square was laid in memory of the brave American troops in the Battle of Chippewa. Led by General Jacob Brown, this battle took place during the war of 1812. Placed in this square is a monument of General James E. Ogelthorpe, which is beautiful bronze statue sculpted by Daniel Chester French.

Madison Square, 1837

This beautiful square was named for the fourth president of the United States, James Madison. In the year 1799, Sgt. William Jasper died in the Siege of Savannah while retrieving his company's banner. A statue was erected in this square to commemorate his bravery.

Columbia Square

This square was laid out in the year of 1799. It marked the eastern boundary of Savannah from 1757 to 1759. It formerly had Bethesda Gate, one of six city gates, placed on it. The fountain, originally from Wormsloe Plantation, in its center was donated by Eudora and Wainwright Roebling in honor of her parents.

Lafayette Square, 1837

This square, laid out in 1837, was named for Marquis DeLafayette. His real name was Marie Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert de Motier. He had visited Savannah and made a speech from the balcony of a house located on that square. Today this square serves as home to a fountain donated by the Savannah Town Committee of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of Georgia.

Wright Square, 1733

The grave of Tomochichi is placed on this square. It is marked by a boulder. This is the second of the four original squares laid out by Ogiethorpe. It was first named Percivil Square after Lord Viscount Percival. It was later named for Sir James Wright in 1763. He was a Royal Governor and was with Savannah during rough times. In the middle of this square, a monument was place in remembrance of William Washington Gordon. He was a former mayor of Savannah and helped establish the Central Georgia Railroad. He was also the father of Juliette Gordon Low.

This square was originally named Eastern Commons and bordered Turstees' Garden. It was renamed for George Washington in 1790.
